I heated some butter in the microwave and it exploded into a greasy mess. How do you clean butter from a microwave?

Soak it off with papertowels first that you throw in the garbage.

Hi Linda. I put a bowl or cup of water and heat it up for about a minute and a half. After it is done remove the bowl (be careful it may be hot)and wipe the microwave clean. You can also put some lemon juice in the water for odors.

Heat a small bowl with water and lemon in the microwave. Works wonders.

Use a bowl of 50/50 water and vinegar in the microwave for about three minutes. Use a toothpick or similar in the bowl to break the surface tension. Don't remove the bowl immediately when the microwave stops. Let it sit for about two minutes. You want the steam to break up the grease. Carefully remove the bowl , it will be hot. Wipe it down with paper towels.

If the butter has exploded in the microwave, it can be a bit of a mess to clean up. Here are some steps you can try:

    1. First, turn off the microwave and let it cool down for a few minutes.
    2. Once the microwave is cool, remove any large chunks of butter from the inside. Use a paper towel or a cloth to blot up any excess butter that has spilled onto the floor of the microwave.
    3. Mix equal parts water and vinegar in a bowl. Dip a cloth or sponge into the mixture and use it to scrub the inside of the microwave, paying particular attention to any areas where the butter has splattered. The vinegar will help to cut through the greasy residue and make it easier to clean.
    4. Rinse the cloth or sponge with clean water and use it to wipe down the inside of the microwave, removing any remaining soap suds or vinegar residue.
    5. Dry the inside of the microwave with a clean cloth or paper towel.

    I hope this helps!

Remove as much as possible with paper towels and then fill a microwave safe bowl about 1/2 full with water and add a splash or two of lemon juice. Put a wooden toothpick in the bowl to break the water tension so it doesn't boil over. Then microwave for 5 minutes. Remove the bowls and let it cool slightly then clean out with a towel.

Lemon and water is the most effective way to clean a microwave. You can find a step-by-step tutorial here: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/clean/microwaves/clean-microwave-with-lemon-44684269

Hi Linda, hope this helps you out.

Wipe your microwave door down with an all-purpose grease-cutting cleaner (like Mr. Clean Deep Cleaning Mist) or a sudsy mix of dish soap and water. Apply the cleaner with a cloth or sponge to prevent the cleaner from getting into the vent holes. Be sure to rinse well with microfiber cloth

  • Wipe off as much as you can with a paper towel. Then remove the plate and wash it in hot soapy water. Use a soapy sponge to clean the rest of the microwave oven.

Put a glass measuring cup in the microwave and let it boil. Then clean up the steam with a paper towel. Make sure you get the top. When I heat butter I use a coffee filter on top of my dish so this does not happen.
