i painted most of trim in my house and the bead board in my kitchen with Dutch Boy Home Brilliant White. This is no longer made!! I am having the hardest time finding that WHITE WHITE paint in a good thickness for trim and furniture. Have brought home several brands that look yellow, green, or gray up against the trim or are runny when trying to paint the furniture. Any suggestions??

  • Take a sample to a real stand alone paint store, they will be able to match it for you.

    • Where I live, Dunn Edwards is my go to paint store. My dad was a contractor and all the first rate contractors use them. Sherwin Williams is next on my list. There are other good paints out there but you need to know what you are doing as generally those paints are sold in small chain or independent hardware stores and the person helping you may have been a plumber in a previous life or some college kid that knows less than you do. I am in CA and we have extremely weird and strict laws and products sold in CA will be formulated differently than what may be offered elsewhere. Even when I was helping my girlfriend and her hubby build their house from the ground up in NC, I insisted on a proper paint store. Everything her hubby "cheaped out on" has since been repainted with a better quality paint . . . From a proper paint store. Regardless of where you live, find a good paint store (there are good independent paint dealers out there) and if nothing else, go in and bend their ear. Then buy a quart of something and test for yourself. Don't get me wrong, I had a wild idea a few years back and painted my home office a Bordeaux color - think it was an Eddie Bauer product, straight out of Home Depot. I washed the walls and literally slapped it on the walls (no primer), and from what little you see, (room is tiny and almost floor to ceiling and wall to wall furnitre), and I still love it. Just use the best quality you can get regardless of price or within your budget. Rather long winded, sorry, and hope it helps!

Do you have a piece with the color on it ? Take it to Home Depot ,they have a color match system.

Naomie is right. The paint store can match any paint color for everything. Take a sample to where you buy paint and they can color match it.

I agree, just know that stores like Lowes & Home Depot do that too. Just make sure that if the color isn't right when you get home, you can return it. You'll want that assurance with a stand alone store too.

Most of mine either comes from Lowes (recognizes Military every day) or Valu Home Center (locally owned). At Valu they carry Dutch Boy. I like their Cabinet & Trim paint but you've said they don't have your color. Lowes paint is Valspar. I haven't bought paint in a while (except the Dutch Boy when they had a huge sale and I picked up some to do some fix-it up work) so I'm not sure about any other brand. Maybe someone else has a favorite brand.

A top quality acrylic latex paint. For furniture seal with at least three coats of a water based polyurethane.
