Once again, following one of my favorite thrift store tips has paid off!

Combined with a little paint and paper, I put together a quick and easy Thanksgiving DIY craft that perfectly capture the meaning of the holiday.
It didn't take me long to decide this thrift store frame was coming home with me. It had beautiful character, solid construction, and was in perfect condition.

It's only flaw...it needed a clean-up and coat of paint. Simple!
I used my Cricut Maker to make a Thanksgiving-themed insert for the frame and headed over to Design Space to find the project I was looking for.
If you aren't familiar with Design Space, it works very similar to a word processing program. You can adjust the size or color - even font when you use the text feature.

This project was too large for the 3 x 5 opening of my frame, so I reduced the size to fit perfectly.
The text and leaves are the only elements of the project, and are created on separate mats. The first draws the text, and the second cuts the leaves.

I only have one mat so I simply loaded it with the text paper and ran it through the Maker, then loaded it again with the papers I used for the leaves and ran it through several times until I had as many leaves as I wanted.
The pattern cuts two leaves at a time. With each cut I made, I adjusted the size of the leaves and used a different color card stock - to resemble the variety of fall leaf colors.
For the Project:

I used Rust Oleum Metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint for the frame and a Cricut Metallic Gold pen for the text.
The text needed a little more impact, so I filled it in with more marker, then gathered the cut leaves.
Next, I arranged the leaves on the card until I found what I liked.
Once I was happy with the arrangement, I added a dot of craft glue to the back of each leaf and put it back in place.
After it was dry, I put it all together and it was ready to enjoy.

I love Thanksgiving! It reminds me all over again to be grateful for all of the blessings in my life - and that it shouldn't be reserved for just one day each year.

Note: the cost of the project does not include the price of a Cricut Maker, and assumes its use as a tool.
