What Would You Do With Them?

Amy
by Amy
THESE PILLARS came from a local building that was about to be torn down, and I was able to rescue them. I posted them on ebay and while I had interested in them each question (low Offer) I received was to tell me what horrible condition they were in...well no kidding, duh they were left in a building to be torn down!?!?!? Since then I have abosolutely decided to keep them (call it stubborn pride, maybe) so HELP... I'm needing some ideas for display, repaint or what

These are absolutely amazing! Are they weatherproof so that you could put them in your garden?

Maybe on each side of your front door. Or incorporate them in the bathroom by the tub. They don't look too bad to me and a little cleaning and paint would do wonders. Let us know what you decide (with pics).

Make the ball part a gazing ball, and paint the rest white or cream for starters...

I love the idea to put them in your bathroom near a tub. That would require having one of those absolutely huge bathrooms or they would always be in the way. If they are as bottom heavy as they look they would easily hold your towel until you stepped out of the tub. But then I changed my mind because most of us have to dream of a bathroom like that and my next thought was of height for the garden. I could see an amazing paint job full of an array of primary and bold colors. they would then need many layers of a clear coating to keep them that way. These would add color and interest to the garden all year around.

I think these would look nice in an entryway

If you have a bed missing the footboard, these could be attached in place of a footboard. Use an old wooden door attached to your wall as a headboard and...voila!

Looking at these has brought a memory to mind. Could these be the stanchions for velvet ropes. Used at old theatres and banks and up-scale hotels?

Entryway or between living room and formal dining room, bedroom for headboard!

If you do repaint them, I would antique them to bring out the beautiful detail on the top and bottom; I don't know the design of your home, however, if like most of us it's a mix of boho, eclectic, french shabby chic, then I would consider using them as false legs under a kitchen island (you didnt mention what they were made of but you said indoor use only so make sure you seal the heck out of them no matter what or where you use them; another place might be on either side of a larger window if you have one, or a window seat; if you have a covered porch they could be a 3 season entryway addition but I would be sure you sealed them with enamel paint versus acrylic; don't forget the post "after pix" :-)

Take the balls off the top and fasten a planter on the top. Plant it with flowers that can trail down.
