Fix rubber backing on bathroom rugs

The non-slip coating on the back of my bathroom rug set is starting to crack and flake off. Is there anything I can paint on to stop this and prevent further damage? I know I could use duct tape, but that may loosen up and fall off in the wash, causing more damage.

Try a hot glue gun, putting lines of glue on the back of the rug and let it dry. They will act as the latex used to act once dry.

It is old and either you change the Mat set or use liquid latex on the back of it once you have removed all flaking and loose rubber........

Don't put rubber-backed rugs in dryer. You might try some of that flex seal stuff.

There are rug grippers..use them under my throw rugs. They are slightly tacky. Hold well. They look a bit like hardware cloth. Only yellow and sticky. Found them near the rugs. Different sizes available.

once damaged the rubberized coating will continue to deteriorate. You can try removing as much of it as you can and then coat it with a rubberized spray coating. Honestly I would just replace them. That’s just me.

Some people have had success with sewing rubber canning rings on the back to prevent slipping. I have not tried it myself.

I would buy a large piece of felt and with a hot glue gun put in on the whole back of the rug, and then buy those rubber pieces they sell so your area rugs stay in place and glue that to the felt.

Thank you, Gina! This is brilliant. It might take a little work, but I really love this set of rugs.
