Insulation! Spray on foam would be best. You can buy it from big box home improvement stores. Read and follow the directions and you will be fine. The cost maybe a bit hirer than you want so you can always use bat insulation instead. Not as good at sound deadening but it will help.

How about the vinyl sheets that have the same shape as the metal ones? I don't know what the longevity is but we had some over a small patio for years. My tiny tots could play even when it was raining. They don't make that awful noise but are prone to mildew, eventually. Ours were on the north side of the house so that may have made a difference. There are form fitting foam pieces that slip in between joints. I saw some at HD in the roofing section just last week.

Home Depot has styrofoam sheets in 4 ft and 6 ft sizes that are about $20 - $25 ( in Florida ). As long as roof does not leak these are good option in between roof supports. Styrofoam comes in different thicknesses too. Can be cut with serrated knife or box cutter/utility knife. Lightweight, sound proofing, also insulates a bit ( and reflects light if you need that ) inexpensive.

I like the sound of rain on a tin roof.
