When we first moved into our house (almost a year ago now!) the entire house was painted a brownish-tan. Literally, the entire house. So, the first thing I did was come up with a color pallet to use throughout the entire house. I love everything light and bright, and my eye naturally goes towards calming cool colors, rather than warm bold colors. Designing my daughter’s room was no different.
I started with a blank (or, um..brown) slate. 😉  Here is what her room looked like the day we moved in:
Pretty dreary, huh?
I decided to paint her room Sherwin-Williams Liveable Green.  A good neutral color, that still adds a bit of life to the room.
Here’s what it looks like now:
So much different, right?!  The paint alone makes it SO much brighter.
We also replaced all the base trim, painted the door trim and window trim white, and replaced the closet doors.
I get a lot of questions on the butterflies in her room.  I actually picked them up on Amazon for $5.99/pack!  You can find them  here!  (I used 3 packs)
We had an old mirror with a brass frame in our basement, so I took a can of white spray paint and freshened it up in about 2 hours!  It fits perfectly on her dresser and she feels like she got a brand new mirror!
I also made the row of hooks by taking a 4 ft. piece of 1×3 wood, painted it white and drilled in 4 sets of hooks spaced out equally.  Another project that only took about 2 hours (and most of that was waiting for paint to dry!)
I still have plans to add some board and batten in her room for more character, but that will have to wait for another day.
