You can actually rent a machine at HD or Lowes that can help you get it up. If not professionals can tear it up in no time.

I have a suggestion: since you're changing them anyway , why not experiment on the finish? See if you can break the gloss and then stain them darker. General Finishes gel stain is supposed to be able to be used as a "paint" over laminate that will stain to a new color. Have you considered trying it?
I'd be really interested in finding out if it worked, because I hate the color of my laminate floors, too. I know the finish is too thin to try sanding them, but am wondering about using the gel stain...
