Get a lot of pictures of the look you want. Take ideas from them. Get things that match and decorate according to your pocket book. Shop antique stores.

Harish, go through every magazine you have (not just decorating or women's magazines) and tear out photos of rooms, furniture and accessories that catch your eye (to get an idea of your taste). Cut out lots! Then lay them all out and choose the ones you love. Pick a color that you have most of in your photos and make it your theme color. Then pick furniture to go with this and finally choose accessories to tie it all together (make sure you love them and not just because they "match"). YOUR DECOR SHOULD REFLECT YOU, not a specific style or what's "In"........have fun with it! (and stay within your budget!) 😳

I use to buy antique things on MaxSold. You can find almost everything you want - furniture, pictures, lamps and so on for very good price.

You can make your home anything that you feel comfortable with. Shop thrift stores, consignment stores, look at the items of interest to visualize what they can be. All items have various definitions, you can create an old trunk into a coffee table, I have a pot belly stove that holds winter hats, scarfs, and mittens. Have fun with it, anything is possible.

Sal is right on point. Do your research first on the internet. You can start with Pinterest. Tag any idea/picture you like. This will take some time so don't try to do this in one sitting. After researching, go back and look thru pics an delete what you don't really like. Then, lay it down and walk away. This gives you time to think, to envision and to realize what look you really LOVE! This includes your wall colors as well. I have followed these rules/suggestions several times and has saved me time and money. Don't you just hate do-overs. Me too! I just now Googled, "antique looking living rooms and found many great ideas...some were too stuffy looking (but that's just me). Hope this helps.

You can go to a thrift store or antique store and buy a small table that would fit in front of a window or in a corner or just anywhere in the room, place a small older lamp on it and an old photo in an old frame, and group some old prints on the wall where you place the little table. If you do this in your bedroom, buy a quilt or any bedspread that has that old time feel to it. You don't have to spend a lot of money when you start out just a couple little things can change the feel of the room. If you can go to an estate sale, search the paper and pick out a sale that sounds good and go, you will be surprised at what you can find. The more estate sales you go to the more you learn, sometimes there might even be a friendly dealer that can advise you on something you might be interested in. I have pieces I bought fifty years ago in what they used to call junk stores for five to twenty dollars. Back then people just wanted to get rid of that stuff, now I could sell the stuff and get a good price, they are good antiques. Just search the deals are out there go to antique stores and search out what style and wood and era you like then start your search and just have fun, because it is fun, I'm still searching out good deals and always changing things out.

The only thing you can't do is tear down load barring wall without adding some other forms of suppress which is usually a beam that an engineer would have to tell you as to how large it needs to be to hold up second story or attic and roof. Otherwise of course you can change and add things such as beautiful crown molding and beams or pillars. Anything your heart desires if it is your home. You obviously have an idea of what that antique look you want or wouldn't have asked. You pay mortgage you get to to have home like you want it because it makes you happy. You can add premade bookshelves and line them up and add molding to hide the fact that you didn't make them then you can retain them to look like built in library, you get the idea. But yes you can make a room change and make it look like your interpretation of antique. I think that everyone is directing you to look for inspiration because we all have our own interpretation of an antique look. Sometimes it's cultural, sometimes it's something you have seen in a Victorian home that you really love and want in your home. Hey the outside of my home is traditional but the inside is not. I am slowly but surely making changes with my husband that suits both of us. I'm not fussy and I hate to clean so I have made changes that allow for my takes and likes to be met. I don't want fancy curly baseboards I had 6inch boards put in that are plan very shaker style. Just like my kitchen cabinets. I don't want to have to clean cabinets with a toothbrush anymore. So hubby picked out wood I picked out style. Compromise. So do you see what I mean. Heck if we pay and live here 365 days and people only visit a few times a year then I don't care if they like it and neither should you. So please go ahead and redecorate your home in the style that you love. Have fun searching for the pieces you want. You may want to try estate sales in older beautiful communities where these things might be found. Sometimes you can find things when people are renovating their homes. You can ask if you can have it if they don't want it and have it in a bin. Be creative.
