Scandinavian Inspired Christmas Sign

Even if you don't fancy yourself a painter, you can make this sign! See how easy it is to get the perfect script every time and add a little Scandinavian charm to your holiday decor.
Start with a piece of raw wood approximately two feet long.

I used pine for this project but wanted the wood to have a darker, richer look so stained it using Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint first. Using thinned Milk Paint is a great way to stain a piece of wood without using all of the harsh chemicals found in most stains.
Next you want to add a backdrop for your words.

I love using a nice bright, pure white paint for this step, it makes it look like snow

When you are brushing on the white, the trick to getting that rustic look is to not go right to the edges of the board. Let the dark stain peak through the white as well as around the edges and that will make the sign look worn and old.
Next you want to add your text. Once you the text you would like and have it placed how you would like it, tape it in place. Slip a piece of graphite paper under the words (dark side down) and trace the outline of each letter using a pen.

Finally, use a beautiful red paint to fill in each letter using a small, thin paint brush.

The crisp white and dark red are the perfect Scandinavian combination to add some Swedish charm to your decor.
When paired with all of the gorgeous natural accents you see in Scandinavian design, the red and white looks beautiful.
