Have a large living room/dining area. What color best for light & airy

Living room and dining, cathedral ceiling with two sunlights and a 5L X 2H provide light. Currently have it painted a lighter blue with accent walls a darker blue. (We live 1/2 mile from beaches.) Room is dark on rainy and winter days. Can't face another "hibernation! What color or colors would brighten space?

Add some up-lighting. Even a bright yellow mellows on dark rainy days.

You could change your accent walls to a sandy colour if you like the coastal look, or add/change accent pieces in bright colours for the winter (hot pink, chartreuse, bright yellow). Also, i would use bright white lamp bulbs and add a new lamp or two (something without a heavy base or shade) for the winter

White, but white doesn’t have to be without color!

Look at white paint chips in the blue family for the brightest (coolest) whites.

To warm it up a little look at the whites in the green family, yellow family whites are a little warmer still, and red family whites are super calming.

You can also make light bounce around a bit with a sheen to your finish. A nice low sheen is found in Satin finish paints.

How about a light aqua, it would look very coastal with white trim. Very nice since you live so close to the beach.

If you don't want to repaint, then select curtains, pillows and accessories that are bright and work with the existing color. For your beachy theme I would pick out lots of things in the "sandy" color scheme like white, ivory, yellow, peach, and cream. I would pick a sheer cream for my curtains, with lots and lots of flowy fabric to mimic ocean waves. Gorgeous!!!

Paint the entire room a warm white or soft gray and use accessories for color such as pillows, wall art, accent rugs, curtains, etc.

light colors..white, gray, blue..any color that is light. I do not like pastels, so I would do white or a light gray.
