Steph was in need of a narrow table to put behind her sofa. When I found a piece of live edge cedar at a yard sale we knew we had found the perfect piece of wood for the project. We decided metal pipe legs would be the perfect pairing for the cedar slab!

Watch the video below to see how it all came together.

This is the space where the table will be placed. The piece of live edge cedar hung out in the living room for a few weeks to acclimate to the space.

The first thing we did was measure how long it needed to be, then we marked it and cut off the ends.

We used a reciprocating saw with pruning blade to cut off the knobby points.

We sanded the board starting with 80 grit moving to 320. This produced a really nice smooth finish.

The top was finished with beeswax. The best finish is produced by wiping on the wax, wiping off the excess, letting it dry, then buffing with 0000 fine steel wool.

The table legs were assembled from a variety of metal pipe parts. We first cleaned them and then waxed them before assembly.

Once all the leg parts were assembled we attached the base to the bottom of the table top. Self-stick felt was added to the feet to protect the floor.

The size of the table is just perfect for the space!

Where on earth do you find a beautiful piece of wood like yours? I'm planning a project and would love a (smaller) piece of wood like yours. And your table is spectacular!

Please let me know what is on the back of the sofa?

I just picked up a gorgeous piece of live edge cypress and am going to try to do a similar sofa table. Yours is gorgeous! I'm having trouble locating the video, particularly the part about putting together the black piping for the legs. Could you direct me please?
