How to Preserve a Pumpkin?

We have a huge pumpkin that we want to preserve and use as a prop in a show that will be on for several nights in a month's time. Only one problem: It's a real pumpkin. How could I remove all the innards to make it lighter as well as preserve it so it does not rot?
Thank you!

I don't believe there is a way to preserve a pumpkin forever. Only termporary.

You can't stop the decaying process once you open it up. Left in a cool dry environment, if it doesn't have any cuts or bruises, it should last another month or maybe two.

Store in a cool dark place like an unheated garage for the time prior to the show. IT should hold up. Cutting into it will cause bacteria to enter and it will then rot.

I have stopped buying real pumpkins because they are still perfect in February....we live in Florida and the warmth doesn't hurt it. I would keep it from freezing and don't think you will have any problems. I hate to throw them out when they are still good but wish the darn things would go away!!! Of course, they were not cut.

I would suggest you contact a taxidermist. Perhaps they may have some suggestions on how the shape and size can be preserved.
