Would it devalue my fireplace to paint it out in white? It is currently gray brick.
We have built-ins on either side of our gray brick fireplace, and I would love to paint the fireplace out in white. However, my husband feels it would be a bad idea.
Yes, paint it outside or in well ventilated area. Some people set small objects inside an old cardboard box to contain the paint from spraying all over. I did bronze some in our home. Look for paint to cover metal specifically. Even department stores like Walmart carry such paint.
Yes use Rustoleums 2X for metal applying two lights coats allowing to dry inbetween
If you give it a light sanding with xtra fine sandpaper the paint will adhere better.. ( Rustoleum)
I would go with the Rustoleum. They have many metallics you can use on metal and also they have many textures also.
Rustoleum has a great selection of products. Highly recommended.
This is a project where technique is the key. Rough the surface, and apply many thin coats, allowing the piece to dry. You can light sand/steel wool between coats. You want to build a finish, not apply one.
I used to do this making modern hardware match 100+ year old doors/cabinets. etc.
Yes rustoleum bronze spray paint!
