Decorating the wall behind a wood burning stove.

We have two wood stove. Why would you want to decorate behind that is isn't visible? Just do a nice paint job (not white).

My neighbor's chair combusted and she had to roll it out the door on fire.... be careful.

I've had wood stoves for over 60 years, and I wouldn't feel comfortable burning that thing as installed.

Some put tiles in behind.

Most states and safety require fire proof wall behind a wood burning stove. Some people use rock or brick walling, if it is 18 inches or closer be sure to put up fire proof walling. It can be decorative too. Our family friend did such for a second part time job and made one wall for my folks with some rocks/bricks sticking out a couple inches for them to set non combustible decorations on them. They set petrified wood or metal profiles of elk and moose behind the stove on the stone/brick wall.

I have hung cast iron skillets and dried herb bundles on the back wall behind my fireplace. You could also hang wooden pizza boards as well and above the fireplace / woodstove you could hang some wooden baskets and more dried herbs such as lavender bundles. Just make sure they don't come into contact with the stove or the pipes.

I would use tiles. Floor tiles 8", 10" or 12" work great with a wide range of textures and colours but if you are willing to spend a little more and get a nicer design, guarry tile is better. NOTE: Install the tiles in warm weather when not using the stove as the glues and grout dry better at room temperatures.

Paint that wall another color as a focal point then add two long pictures one one each side of the stove this way your eye will not just focus on that stove.

Tile has been suggested, but brick would work too!
