Hi Heather, I don't think the base makes as much difference as the top coat. However, most projects I've read where the dishwasher Mod Podge was used, people say they would hand wash them anyway. Especially glasses. Was this the project you were doing? https://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/rooms/spit-on-glass-16790058?expand_all_questions=1

If so, you could also ask the person who posted the project. Hope that helps.

Hi Linda. It was just old glass vases, jars and candlestick I was doing. I was trying the project with Mod Podge. I don1t know whether to try it or to spray some oil based stuff over them. I cannot believe how silly I was. Thanks for reply Heather

Heather, I actually saw a video and the person used regular mod podge and outdoor mod podge among other things to test which looked best. It turned out that the regular mod podge kept the colors the truest. It's a pretty long video but it might give you some insight.

@weedinwoman54, you can also use Mod Podge if you paint it on lightly. If you look at the video I posted, you'll see that the demo shows that. The video is done by an employee from Unicorn Spit - Canada. :)
