What is the best way to clean a sisal rug to remove stains from it?
I would use water and soap but I donĀ“t know wheter sisal rugs shrink with water. Some stains are from spilling drinks, some others were produced by pets.
If it's large, I would hire a professional.
You can rent a shampooer and do yourself
You could use a floor steamer, they work pretty good on carpet and rugs. Like the Shark Steamer.
If you use a steam cleaner, I suggest that instead of the commercial rug shampoo that you use an oxygenated powder (like OxyClean or my favorite, Awesome Orange) and water in the shampoo container. The amount of filthy water that comes out will amaze you.
If the tag states dry clean only, you need a professional to come in. They have the best equipment and products. Don't try to do it with rented equipment or risk ruining the rug. We had our carpets cleaned recently and the outcome was spectacular.
