Beadboard Ceilings for Kitchen

Doing our ceiling in the next few weeks and want beadboard. The dilemma - use the MDF sheets? the wooden beadboard sheets? or individual tongue and groove boards. Want to do it cheap and fast. Have seen there are PVC beadboard panels too, but not sure where to find them. The wood sheets look rough and I am afraid they would require several coats of paint... Ideas anyone?

I was really impressed with this site. Seems reasonable, light weight, easy to install, can be oainted and many nice styles....but not bead board. http://www.decorativeceilingtiles.net/ Worth it to take a look.

If this is the way you are going, try to use tongue and groove so that if any thing shifts, the boards do not separate and gaps become apparent. good luck!

We installed the individual tongue and groove boards on our kitchen ceiling and used the 12' length ones to minimize seams. I can't remember how much we paid for it...it's been up about 10 years (and I still LOVE it). Good luck and please post pictures when you get it completed.

We used the tongue and groove on our master bedroom ceiling (to hide the fine cracked plaster in our 105 yr. old Queen Anne). We made faux beams because we couldn't find t & g long enough to cover the span of the room. Divided the ceiling into 4 quadrants. I then filled all the little nail holes then primed and painted it white. To be honest, there is no real easy way if you want it to look great. It was a real PIA, but we love the results. Did think of using the "sheet looking bead board" but was afraid the large panels would wind up looking "wavy". Good luck.

I too worry about it looking wavy but again my kitchen is small...I might get lucky and it look fine, Really hope to finish it on the cheap side.

Least expensive way is beadboard wallpaper on the ceiling if you are going to paint. We just wallpapered our ceiling with textured wallpaper and painted it a metallic copper color We did 288 sf. It was painful, but not terribly hard to do

Still needs the crown molding put in, I am still waiting for my kitchen cabinets before its completely finished

Thanks! I did a lot of research before tearing out the ceiling boxes in preparation for our remodel. There was nothing behind them and we couldn't match the ceiling tiles and everyone wanted $1500 to put sheetrock up, so this cost me about $225 with the Modern Masters metallic paint
