Carol on Mar 25, 2014I keep it at no more than 5 1/2 to 6 ft. tall, otherwise I wouldn't be able to reach high enough to prune. Mine is just in front of my screened in front porch and it provides some privacy as well as the pretty flowers.Helpful Reply

Darwin on Mar 25, 2014They are beautiful. But I would cut them back to a foot or so, below your windows. You can cut them back several times a year. See how they branch where you cut them back. It really does not hurt a plant to trim them back, it stimulates growth.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Mar 26, 2014They will definitely get big. The more heavily you prune, the longer it will take the plant to come back into bloom, so pruning more frequently, but less severely, is a good way to go with hibiscus.Helpful Reply

Gu3mom on Mar 27, 2014I can appreciate the merits of keeping the window visible (curb appeal, sunlight, etc.) but it's hard to imagine what could be a prettier view! :) I LOVE Hibiscus!Helpful Reply

Jeanetteann on Mar 28, 2014We have 5 in a row on our back fence and they are so pretty. I talked my hubby into leaving them alone last year and not pruning. Big mistake. the white one got so big it was leaning on the one next to it and almost pushed it over. Needless to say he had to severely recently and it doesn't look as nice in shape, Soooooo, trim regularly we say rather than what we did.Helpful Reply
