Winter and the holidays has many of us just wanting to cozy up by the fireplace. But what if you don't have one? Maybe it is because you are renting. Maybe you just don't have the funds to add a fireplace right now. So what are you to do?
Love Our Crazy Life took an old bookshelf and the transformation they made with it has us grabbing the hot chocolate and heading to the couch to get that cozy fireplace moment.
This faux fireplace is a simple weekend upcycle project that is perfect for the holidays and cooler months. But don't worry, you can easily convert this faux fireplace back into a bookshelf with the $3 insert hack. Check out the hack on our website. http://www.loveourcrazylife.com/diy-old-bookshelf-faux-fireplace/
.
Step 1: Find a sturdy bookshelf with a nice design. Take the top off the bookshelf. Prep your bookshelf for painting. Find tips on prepping it on
Step 2: Use wood glue and finishing nails to add molding to your top for a "mantle like" edge. (Optional)
Step 3: Paint your bookshelf and seal it. After the pieces are dry, place the top back on.
Step 4: Create the fireplace insert. Check out the $3 insert hack on our site so that you can easily convert this back into a bookshelf if desired. http://www.loveourcrazylife.com/diy-old-bookshelf-faux-fireplace/
Use stay-cool LED lights to create a fireplace ambience.
Place wood logs on the fire grate. You can place more LED lights under the logs for a fire-like glow.
Step 5: Decorate your mantle and enjoy your faux fireplace!

Did anyone use this bookcase>paint>lights idea to make an elaborate creche? Use all your figures and maybe some extra angels? Great!

Love it... I have a fireplace that needs to be put together { Pain in the yahooskas} but have a bookcase that didn't sell at garage sale...really nice but I can use this idea for the porch or guest room and right in time for the holidays! And I have the electric heater fireplace that will fit in..If not, here comes the grate and some logs as have 21 trees around the property..HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL IN SPITE OF COVID 19 AND THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION...HOPE i am still on the planet by the time they come to a decision..

I have a book shelf in my living room I keep looking at wondering what I could do with it. Now I know, thank you. I can’t wait to start this project. 😀
