I want to put tile in the half of the basement, how hard is that?

The basement is halfway finished, it had carpet on concrete. It flooded down there nd he ripped up half of the carpet. I thought if we put tile on the concrete,it possibly wouldn't flood anymore.... I'm sure it would probly be cheaper if we done it?...but not sure of the level of knowledge...

Take a free class! Places like Home Depot have them all the time. Then you will know if you are up for the task. You can do this, just be patient and take your time. And choose a simple pattern to lay out the tiles.
Hi Betty. Doing the job yourself will save you money. You will need to have a tile cutter or saw. Putting tile down will not stop the flooding, but would be easier to clean up the flooding. Here is a link for laying tile.

Tile will not stop your basement from flooding. Any flooring that sits in water needs to be removed. I agree that tile is a good option but the flooding issue has to be repaired first.
The water seepage is causing more than floor damage so it’s a good idea to repair that before it becomes a major expense.
If you cannot stop the water from seeping in right now, I would suggest painting the concrete slab with concrete porch paint until you can address the water issue.

Hey Betty the best deal for your basement would be to place ceramic tiles on the top of cement, vinyl or other will come off with next flood if you don’t repair the source of leak.
Sometimes installing a sump pump in the area of flooding, or close to a low area that the water comes in, will help. . . You may have to excavate a small low spot to collect the water. . . Replacing tile or other coverings will not stop the seep. . . .Good luck. . ..
Several of the DIY shows use the newer Linoleum flooring in basements that might flood (DIYnetwork.com see Income Property) as they can be cleaned up after flooding and they won't mold.
As to the garage draining into the garage/basement... HomeAdvisor.com or AngiesList.com can connect you with a Landscape Architect .. who can advise you on what to do to move the water away from your garage.. French drain, weeping tile.... .you could also look into a center drain in the garage floor... that would connect with a sump pump... that would send it into the sewer.
