Un-nasty the drywall then paint. Been there, done that. If you would like to describe the nastiness we may be able to guide you further.

I used killz, then painted with a nice white paint. Both of them drip, so protect your stuff

Would need more info. Is it nasty with mold? Is the paint peeling? Is the drywall falling down? If the paint is peeling, there is paint just for bathroom ceilings. You will have to scrape off the old or put a skim coat of drywall mud over it before painting again. If the drywall is falling down, rip it off and replace with new drywall and paint with a high quality bathroom ceiling paint. If it is mold, clean it and prime the surface with Kilz. Then paint with a high quality bathroom ceiling paint.

it would help to get more information but if the ceiling is just not to your liking, you could always cover it with wood planks or wallpaper it!

Well when it was put in it is in sections and the lines show. Also there are nail heads showing. It was not installed properly, but, we are trying to do it on the cheap so I thought maybe someone knew of something cheap to cover it up.

The ceiling just looks bad. No mold, just ugly. It is just a half bath -- sink and toilet.
