How effective is wrapping a water heater with extra insulation?

My electric water heater is original to the house...vintage 1952. the town handy man was out and checked all the mechanicals and weather seals arround pipes. It’s a 50 gal. tank. So far it’s working correctly.

Our water heater in located on the outside of our home. Wrapping with insulation made a HUGE difference. You also might consider putting a timer on your water heater since it is old. Why pay to heat water when nobody is using it? Our timer is only on 2 hours a day. An hour in the morning and an hour at night.
Wrapping a water heater can make a huge difference....especially if your heater is located in a colder area of your home such as a garage or basement. It helps to retain the heat longer, so the heater doesn't have to work as hard to maintain its temperature.
Big plus and big savings. You can buy water heater insulation kits or just get your own insulation (would be cheaper).

something that old might have rust inside. Did they test for that? Yes insulation can definitely Show a great improvement.
