We have a small house with no dining room and no room for a table in the kitchen. So we bought an adjustable table at IKEA with four matching chairs. I usually kept it covered with a table cloth because it was so boring.
I began by lightly sanding the table top, the base and the legs of the table.
I removed the cloth chair cover to expose the chair legs for sanding and protect the cover from damage while working.
I gathered materials: Napkins for table top and chair legs. Art Potch and paints for the table base.
I then separated the napkins to lay on the surface of the table top, matching the patterns. This whole project used one package of 20 napkins total.
Using a 2" brush, I brushed the Art Potch on the table top, placed the napkin over the wet area. I did not paint the table top because I wanted a warmer color to come through and make a contrast with the legs of the table. NOTE: I placed a piece of clear plastic wrap, (like Syran wrap) over each placed napkin to smooth them out with my hands, this keeps you from damaging the wet napkins and makes a smother surface. I worked in small sections and brushed more Art Potch over each section as I went along.
I painted the legs and base of the table with graphite gray, when it dried I used a dry brush technique and added brush stokes of black so that the gray still shows through.
Next came the chair legs. I cut the separated napkins into aprox. 3" strips. Brushed the Art Potch on the wood, laid the strips on and smoothed each section using the plastic wrap.
The legs of the chairs have more of an overlay look because of the shape and coverage they needed. Again I went over the each leg with another coat of the Art Potch.
Once all was dry, I put a generous topcoat of clear lacker over all surfaces to seal everything.
A finished chair. I use the two extra chairs in the bedrooms because there is no room for them in the living room full time.
Finished table with leaves open and two chairs.
Finished look with the table in closed position.

Thank you for sharing. I am waiting to redo a small table I thought about doing like you did but use the comics out of the Sunday paper. Any advice?

Can this be done on a glass table?

Love your idea. Just wondering. They are paper napkins? So for Americans this is hodgepodge? I have not been crafting for years but ready to get back. Need a refresher on doing this. Thanks.

Great job!! I've done the same thing except i used coffee filters that I dyed different colors. It looked like I had tie dyed the furniture! I also used several coats of clear acrylic finish.
