I prefer baking soda, but, I think it would work the same way. I moisten the surface and then with a small amount of baking soda start working it in with a sponge or microfiber cloth. Use small amounts or you will be cleaning the dried residue off for some time.

Borax is banned in the United Kingdom but with any cleaning products, it's best to make a paste. Start by adding small amounts of vinegar to your borax until you get a paste consistancy

i use Dawn, white vinegar and baking soda. Make up a pasty solution and brush it on. Let sit for 10 minutes and wipe off with warm water. When dry you can put a nice coat of water base polyurethane on them. Are they oak??
