Oil based polyurethane

I tried asking a unicorn spit this question but in California they won’t sell oil based polyurethane so I don’t know what to seal with.. Famowood..I know is available but it seems just too complicated and difficult. Everything else is water-based or oil modified whatever that means ...

Do you need to use oil based? They even have exterior sealers that are water based. The chemicals released into the air are the issue and oil based is the worst offender.

You may have better luck asking directly on that website.

Can you order what you need from Amazon? I have also gotten water based Poly’s that seal very nicely.

The problem with water-based sealers and Unicorn SPiT is that you can spritz, spray and wipe US with water to change the hue, bleeding, spread, and blend of the colors. US can also be it’s own sealer, especially if it’s on a flat surface you can cover with glass. But even months later, the surface can be changed or harmed by water. Calif. probably doesn’t allow oil-based materials to be shipped in, either. How close do you live to the border? Ha ha. 😇

Right!? here’s what I came up with... i’m using Tung Oil first then going after it with the Shellac or Oil modified polyurethane! Thank you so much for giving me a laugh and for answering my question !

I decided to use Tung oil first then seal with an oil modified poly or a Shellac! Thank you for responding. I’m wondering do you use unicorn spit ?

We are still able to receive Famowood here in California. In fact I buy it at Joannes but it seems difficult to use I don’t know I’m scared of it I guess thank you so much for responding though
