I love using painter's tape! It doesn't leave a sticky residue behind, even after being stuck to something for quite a long time. It's cheap too!
As a measuring device
Trying to measure inside a small enclosed space can be very difficult with a measuring tape. Using a small level and placing tape at the places I want to drill or hammer, it is much easier to mark the wall or cupboard.
As a measuring device
I place the edge of the level against the side or back of the cabinet, then mark where I want my screws to go. Not only are the marks consistent, but they're level too!
As a sewing aid
I use painter's tape to mark off where I want to sew a casing or decorative border. Yes there's a doodad you can screw down to the sewing machine's plate, but that is fiddly and more awkward.
As a cutting guide
I measure where I wanted to cut fabric, mark it with pins, then put down the tape along the cut line. Then I take out the pins. The tape makes the cutting easier, and by leaving the tape in place after, it reduces fraying until ready to sew.
As labels
This works so well, with glass or plastic! Again the tape stays put until you are ready to remove it, leaves no sticky residue! I also use it on containers that are heading to the freezer, and on my jam and preserves jars. Even in the freezer the tape labels stay on.

As a package closer
What is more frustrating than upending an open box of spaghetti and to have all the noodles fall out!

I have also used the tape to keep things in place while working on them, and once, in need of a donut cushion to sit on (don't ask) I taped a pool noodle into a circle that fit my sit-upon perfectly!
