There are tons of great bird feeders on the market. They come in lots of shapes, styles and colors. A good all-around feeder will attract lots of birds to your yard as long as you keep it cleaned and filled regularly. Consider putting out a birdbath as well.

If you live in an area where there are rats and squirrels you may want to get squirrel proof feeders. They will chew up plastic feeders to get the food. There are feeders with wire cages around them that allow small birds to enter the cage and use perches to access the food. Other squirrel prof feeders have weight triggers that close off access to the food. They are more expensive but the birds will get the food instead of the pesky rodents. I've seen big old rats hanging from my feeders and this summer a brand new feeder I got for clinging birds was chewed up. I'd feed my squirrels but that would just be inviting wild rats to dinner. So my advice is, 'Go squirrel prof and don't buy cheap feeders'

If you put out humming bird feeders, also put out some bee water, Most often bees are not after the sugar, but are just thirsty, Don't color the sugar water and change it often, Freshen the bee water often too. If you live where ants are a problem get an ant trap to hang the feeder from.

This link has lots of images of bee waterers. https://www.google.com/search?q=bee+waterer&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi7nZza6-_XAhVV1mMKHYfaDlIQ_AUICygC&biw=1207&bih=562

I also hang wasp and yellow jacket traps in summer. They do attack and kill bees and they've also attacked and stung me. I really like 'Rescue' wasp' yellow jacket and hornet traps. Bees are not attracted to them.

I don’t have ant problems, but I like your idea. You should post it as a project.

Anything your imagination can come up with. I made one from an old ornate planter and a metal bowl that fits in the top of the planter. Spray painted it and put it in my garden. I was given a feeder made out of a cup and saucer glued onto a table leg - really cute.

I don’t Have an ant problem where I live but I know that many who live in the southern states do. But your idea sounds great. You should make a post. I don’t recall anyone ever posting diy ant traps.
