Puzzle Piecing With Driftwood & Cardboard

A new T.V. means two things at my house...the husband is all content watching the thing and I'm wondering how many projects I can create with the box? So this is a repeat of the driftwood starfish I've made in the past but not everyone has ocean creatures in mind for their decor style.

I decided to switch it up a little and go from a starfish into something a little more romantic. I simply traced and cut out a heart shape for this project, yes that same piece of cardboard can go a long ways!

As seen with the starfish project I didn't want the t.v. packaging logos visible so I covered the back with a thin layer of tacky glue and placed brown paper over that.

I let it dry well and cut the along the edge with an exacto knife. Now I am ready to flip it over and begin the puzzle piecing of small bits of driftwood I previously collected, cleaned and dried.

The wood pieces are so lightweight that all I used to glue them in place with was Aleene's Tacky glue.

*A good tip I'd like to share is that I used a small drop of hot glue to secure them in place until the tacky glue dried. I found that otherwise the placement might shift a little as I pieced the entire project in place. My goal was to conceal the cardboard base and configure each piece as if it were made to fit that spot as you'd piece together a puzzle.

Here's a close-up of how unique and varied the driftwood pieces are in both shape and color. I spy...can you see the heart in the driftwood piece?

To finish off the project and conceal the corrugated cardboard edge I glued jute string all around it with a glue gun. I did two complete wraps in this instance because the string I had on hand was thin.

The first heart was a hit so I made two more, varying the size and shape a little. Seen below are three of the hearts I've completed so far, I'm sure there are others in the works because T.V's break right? Haha...the cardboard cycle continues...
