While many people like to keep up with the latest trends in Christmas decorations, you need not spend a bundle on making your home feel festive this holiday season. Our homemade snowman decor creations will help you add a personal touch! As an added bonus, each snowman is easy to craft, mostly using items you can find around the home.

Whether adding charm to your tree or seeking something interesting and original to pose on your mantelpiece, these Christmas snowman decorations are great fun to make!

Sock Snowman

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

To create my sock snowman, I needed a couple of spare socks - a white sock to create the snowman and a pattern to create his scarf. Then, to turn socks into snowmen, a couple of cups of rice, some ties, and decorations.

Step 2: Fill with Rice

I cut off the tip of the sock and then used one of my ties to seal it. To create the body, I added some dried rice to create a round shape, and then tied it off again before filling and tying off to create the snowman’s head.

Step 3: Decorate

Now for the fun part! I created a cute hat and scarf using a red polka dot sock and added decorations using buttons and acrylic paint, but you can use your imagination to create custom snowmen for your home.

Fishbowl Snowman

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

To create my own fishbowl snowman, I dug out three old fishbowl-style dessert bowls (make sure they’re stackable) and picked up a small packet of fake snow from my local craft store. Then I found three Christmas ornaments to sit in each bowl. If you can’t find fake snow then you can also use rock salt.

Step 2: Fill the Bowls

After that, I slotted my ornaments into the bowls and made sure that they remained upright. Then I added the fake snow to help keep the ornaments steady and to set a wintry scene. You don’t have to use too much, a third-full is enough.

Step 3: Stack and Decorate

The final step is to stack and decorate. I carefully stacked my bowls and added a scarf and a hat to bring the snowman to life. You could also use glitter paint to add facial features and buttons. Be careful to keep your fishbowl snowman in a safe place, where it can’t get knocked over.

Snowman Pallet Wreath

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

This year I gave my wreath an additional wintry twist with some Christmas snowman decorations. To create my centerpiece, I used a small wooden pallet. I also needed a nail gun for construction, and some paint for decoration.

Step 2: Attach the Boards

I broke off a strip of wood from the end and attached it using the nail gun to create the brim of my snowman’s hat.

Step 3: Paint

I painted the hat black and washed the rest of the pallet in white. I used a ruler and orange paint to create the perfect carrot nose and added a smile, but you can use your imagination here.

Step 4: Attach to Wreath and Hang

I used wire fasteners to attach my pallet snowman to the wreath, but you may also use a nail gun or string to create a fastening. I made sure to position my snowman centrally to create a wonderfully festive display for my front door.

Light-Up Snowman

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

To create a whimsical light-up snowman for my Christmas tree I took a tea-light - the kind that is battery powered - and a ping-pong ball. I used sharpie markers to add decoration, a touch of glue to hold my creation together, and some felt for a scarf.

Step 2: Attach Ball to Light

I used the tip of the tea-light to poke a hole in the ping-pong ball and added a little glue to keep the ball in place.

Step 3: Decorate

I added my snowman’s face using a sharpie marker, including a bright orange carrot nose, and wrapped a strip of blue felt around the base of my snowman’s head to create a warming scarf.

Step 4: Hang

All that’s left is to light my new snowman decor by flicking the switch, and then carefully hang him on one of the branches of my Christmas tree.

Melted Snowman Ornament

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

To make my melted snowman, I bought some plain Christmas ornament balls. This has to be the type that you can unscrew into halves.

Step 2: Fill the Ornament

Fill one of the segments about half-full with rock salt, and then add sticks and peppercorns. These are our snowman’s arms and buttons.

Step 3: Decorate

For extra decoration, I added a triangle of orange felt for the snowman’s nose and a longer rectangular strip for his scarf.

Step 4: Hang

When the ornament is full and decorated, it’s simply a case of carefully sealing the ornament and then hanging it from your tree.

How to Display

The melted snowman and light-up snowman would make a wonderful addition to any Christmas tree, while the fishbowl and sock snowmen make wonderful decor you can pose on your dinner table or mantel.
