You can paint it with later paint. Instead of sanding it, you brush it with a stiff brush. You can also use Rit Dye, just follow directions online for your fabric and for hand dyeing. If the fabric is old, vacuum it, clean it, and paint and dye the whole sofa. 😇

Have you tried upolstery cleaner or carpet cleaner? Try on hidden area to check for color changes. Baby wipes work great for spot cleaning fabrics (clothes, too) or recover it. The largest size rectangular table cloths work great (probably 2) and you can use duct tape to “sew” around cushions or just tuck & safety pin to fit if you choose a cover. Or, I watched a video on here that showed how to upolster... take pics before, remove fabric carefully, use those pieces as patterns ,cut fabric, (sometimes heavy curtains are good use), replace or add more cushion, start staple gunning & maybe if none of that works I’d try the fabric paint. I think when furniture gets that wet it develops unpleasant odor! Good luck and there’s always Good Will or Craig’s List!

I would vacuum really well. Then try spray foam upholstery cleaner. Scrub in with a soft scrub brush. Let dry 24 hours. Then vacuum again. This can be repeated. As a last resort,, if the cushions unzip - think about having them dry cleaned. I would not want to sit on a painted couch...

Go to a craft store, try to buy closest darker color of your couch, follow directions for dyeing in in a receptacle like a bucket after vacuuming fabric,

apply hot dye with a sponge, stroking in only one direction.............let it dry,

apply dye again stroking perpendicularly to the first stroke, then pray a little that your blemishes are covered..........I've done this a few times to a couch, a rug and to car upholstery ,,,,,good luck!
