Café style curtains hung halfway up, with a valance (hung up high so that the bottom just covers an inch or so of the top of the window) - would give your dog friend enough room to look out assuming he is a big dog. (and he leaves them along) But none of this addresses the dog nose prints and slobber on the window! I have a canine friend that also has a "perch" and keeps tabs on what is going on up and down the street!
I agree. Something you can open during the day and close at night would help. Then he/she knows it's time to leave the outside "outside" and calm for the day. It will hopefully get the hint.
We have the same problem, but the bottom of our window is about 3 inches wide so he has enough room to get his front feet up there (luckily our windows stop just 14 in above the floor so most of the time he can just stand there and look out.... any way...... I got roller shades that I can pull down partway so he can see under, and he can't stand on them to pull them down. (he has learned how to lift them up to get the complete view)
you could do blinds and pull them so that way your dog does not destroy your curtains
You could also do a swagged curtain or curtain scarf to give you some curtains on the edges, and then add a shade or roman shade for night time. https://www.google.com/search?q=pictures+of+swagged+curtains&client=opera&hs=yPN&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiu5qKyt_jXAhVS6WMKHT_rDckQ7AkISg&biw=1366&bih=629
What about vertical blinds that your dog can easily move aside just by touching them? I am not sure what "nets" you have in mind and normally I embrace the bizarre but I just do not see the point in curtains or window coverings if you you use open netting. Then again dog is big enough, you may not need to worry about being robbed!
Blinds. Pull them down but leave a foot or so for you dog to peek under.
Funny, I answered this earlier . . . Hmmmm.
What about tie backs? This is what I did.
tuanks naomie, I have an Akita. And he managed to pull the wooden plinth with the curtains on. my boy kinda stuck em up again in the hopes I wouldn’t notice!!!! Kids huh!!
drapes that you can pull at night or sheers that you can pull to the sides and have tie backs or hold backs.
Loki sure is cute!!!!!
