What to do with them other than put them in the curbside recycle bin.
Empty pill bottle
First remove the label. Some labels peel off cleanly; others, not always.
Oops! It didn’t come off completely.
Since some of the label remained, I submersed it into a cup of potent soapy water to soak a while,
After soaking I rolled the paper off with my thumbs. But the label adhesive remained, so it was time for Goo Gone.
Amazing stuff!
Just a few drops is all it takes.
Rub all over the adhesive with your thumbs. You will feel the adhesive yield to the Goo Gone and you can continue till it rolls off.
Remove what's left with a paper towel
and continue till all the Goo Gone is gone too.
Only adults should do this and with caution.
Drill a hole through the lid just large enough to insert a sewing needle through. I don’t have a drill so I hand tooled it with a pointed knife. In hind sight, I would have separated the lid from the little plastic insert that makes it childproof. Not separating them became a little problematic.
The problem resulted in the hole ending up larger than I wanted. It was going to be a sharps container, but instead of using it to put broken sewing needles into as I had intended I will now use it to plant seeds in the spring. A sharps container hole has to be small enough that the needles can’t fall back out. Before disposing of a bottle full of needles squeeze some water-proof glue inside, let it dry before putting the lid back on so the contents won’t spill in case the lid comes off. We have to protect refuse workers who could by some freak unforeseen incident be exposed to them. This is also a good way to dispose of diabetic needles, but I would use a larger bottle.

If you want a smaller hole use a ice pick or the like and warm on your burner of your kitchen stove and melt a hole through your lid.
