I'm afraid if I make it to dark, it will stand out to much, if to light, it won't show.

Making it a different shad adds interest. Go for it.

  • A different/contrasting color will make it 'pop'.

Make your door pop by using an accent color! Whole house painted one color can be boring so add tasteful color, then go crazy on the door. Our house is pale yellow with white trim, the porch ceiling is pale blue. The doors are currently Hunter Green but I,m thinking about a dark pink door in the future. I think red, navy blue, black, and purple are possibilities!

  • I always paint the front door a complimentary color so it stands out. Then repeat that color in porch decor.

Actually, it can be any color you choose...the door should make a statement..you can then coordinate landscaping and seasonal decor accordingly

You want your front door to be welcoming and easily seen. Make it pop! Use a contrasting color. Either lighter or darker. Black, red, even purple.
