I needed to brighten up my office/craft/study (AKA: The Parlor) and decided to paint the bookshelves. It was really easy, just took a little time. No sanding and here is my final result. So see a step by step go here: http://thewilsonfarm.blogspot.com/2014/03/painting-laminate-bookshelves-dark-to.html
Dark and yuck! I couldn't wait to get paint on these bad boys. They were so drab! I much prefer light and bright to dark!
1 Coat of primer in. Sometimes at this point you start to wonder why in the world you started this project. It takes forever painting some things!
Final product! I love how it brightens the whole room up! :) It makes the room look so much larger to have lighter pieces! I just love white!

Pamela, you could put a wall paper or contact paper on the inside of your backs for a contrast in color or design if you are concerned about painting the cardboard.
