HELP!! I just moved into an older home with a mirrored wall and would like to avoid the mess and expense of removing it, I also like that it helps expand my small dining room, what can I do to update the look and make it a decorating asset? Glue thin beadboard about 42" up the mirror and then glue foam board chair rail molding on top of the beadboard. Then frame the mirror with flat foam board molding. Run vertical pieces where the beveled strips are.
Treat it as any other wall. Hang a pictures, one large over your buffet server, and one of each side. Instead of putting a hole in the wall, hang from a plant hook from the ceiling with antique hangers. Put a large palm on each side. The mirror will still be there, but softened.
Remove it or paint it.

Oh, man I would put lattice work in front of that in a heartbeat! Make it look like an indoor garden! You still have the reflection but it would be much more subtle. And the lattice work could be as elegant or informal as you like and also very inexpensive!
Cindy, I know a lot of people hate the room-size mirrors, but I think they're the greatest thing, and wish I had one! Use Command Hooks to hang some art. If you don't like it just pull the hooks off. I bet you'll like your wall if you decorate the way some on here have told you. You're a lucky gal with a mirrored wall!
I have the same problem. I found the peel and stick wallpaper from Walmart works great and it is removable later if you get tired of it.
You could use rustoleum mirror effects spray paint and vinegar to create a mercury glass look. It would still be reflective but softer, and you could still layer it with art.
Hi Cindy, I would paint a wainscotting along the bottom of them to make them look like they are regular sized mirrors on the wall. You could also do a peel and stick on the entire or only on the lower part to look like regular wall.
