Help with Front Door

is it possible to rehang a front door that swings out to swing in saving the door? Want to add a wrought iron security gate on the door. Opening out gives no security as people always stand behind it .

All that need to be done is to remove the hinges and reinstall opposite to where they were after removing the door. Then rehang. Hinges need to be on the inside of the door as the pins can be removed if they are on the outside and that is not safe.

Sure is. I've done this with interior doors.

I'll give this one caveat that some steel entrance doors they don't have a wooden insert that the hinge mounts to. The steel door frame has threaded inserts and it is, for practical purposes, not possible to turn the hinges around. Okay, two caveats. If the door frame is steel you won't be able to move the hinge either.

In the USA all exterior doors open in. It is unusual to see one that opens out.

If you have no experience hanging doors, an exterior security door is not the place to learn. This can be a frustrating process, trying to get the door to fit properly, and you should probably hire a pro.

Take out the screw in the middle of each hinge. Insert longer and slightly larger one on frame side. Cut off head of screw. They should line up with door hole. When shut, with pins the bad guy still has a problem.

If you are concerned with security, then have a one way "eye" installed in the door, so that you can always see who is there, without having to even open up the door.
