I did a update for my small spare bathroom. I wanted to achieve the Glam look however the lights that were in the bathroom were brown and yellow. Did not go with the silver tone that I was looking to achieve. After some thinking and not having money in my pocket I came up with a great alternative that gives me the Glam look without having to go out and buy a new fixture.
Boring! Not bad light but just not what I wanted. And what I wanted I did not have the money to purchase. The bronze fixture with the yellow glass just didn't work! Time to change that!
First thing was to remove the yellow glass shades. Wiped them down so there was no dirt or dust and was ready to paint.
Next I chose a craft paint that was a flat true White and another paint that was a pearlized White. For the application I used a sea sponge.
With a barely damp sea sponge I alternated between the flat paint and the pearlized paint on the glass shade both inside and out. I wanted to eliminate as much yellow reflection as possible so it was imperative to do the inside as well. This is not a full coverage as you can still see some of the yellow through it but it is predominantly white when finished. The pearlized will give it some more light reflective qualities.
Next I used these rhinestone strips. I cut three rows at a time height-wise as tall as the shade. I only used 3 rows at a time because otherwise they would not line up. So I turned them over and sprayed adhesive to the backs then placed on the shades pressing firmly. I repeated this process all the way around the shade until done
Using a silver metallic paint I then painted the base of the light fixture. It took two coats but it turned out perfect! Now time to assemble!
Finished! I finally have the Glam light fixture I always wanted for under $35! Love it!
