This gorgeous, blended finish was created by Abbey from to give it an underwater feel! She used several colors including Bliss, Wanderess, Jitterbug, and Happy Hour.
I can thank my mom for this title; she said this piece belongs in a mermaid cottage and I have to agree. When I first stumbled across it in the thrift store it didn’t belong anywhere! Someone had previously painted it and I’m not quite sure what look they were going for but, whatever it was, it didn’t work.

Since my first attempt at a blended finish I’ve wanted to try it again. After patching a few damages, cleaning, and sanding, I selected my colors and got to work.
I started with patches of Happy Hour then I blended Bliss around those edges. To keep the paint damp and to dilute while I blended I used a spray bottle of a water and vinegar mixture. I filled in with Wanderess and accented with Jitterbug. By spraying some concentrated areas with my spray bottle I got the Jitterbug to run a little, drying with some pretty cool drips. Using a putty knife I scraped on just a few touches of mustard yellow.
With a touch of floral paper and some awesome mercury glass knobs this beauty is ready to find a new home! I staged this quickly before the baby woke up with twin two year old critics watching while munching on pancakes and saying “cheese” every time I snapped the camera.
