Recycling a Designer Sweater

Recycled my son's over-sized Polo sweater and made something warm and cozy for me.
When my oldest son moved out recently, he left a lot of expensive clothing. One of them was this adorable Polo sweater that he no longer wanted.
I could have given it to Goodwill or the Salvation Army, but instead decided to make it into something useful for myself and possibly gift it back to him. I decided I would cut off the arms, center the "hip" Polo bear and make a pillow.
This photo shows the results of squaring off the sweater, stitching all the sides (with my sewing machine), and leaving an opening at the bottom to stuff with filling.
I filled with lots and lots of filling until I got it to a nice comfy size. After this was completed the opening was hand sewn closed.
Here is the final product. This was a very, very easy project. Still debating whether or not my son will get this repurposed sweater back. icon
Leg Warmers from the Polo Sweater
Here are the sleeves that I removed from that same sweater. I decided to use them for leg warmers.
The sleeves were cut down to fit the length of my leg from ankle to calf, with some additional length at the top to form a casing for elastic.
Here is the final product. I decided to add some lace to the bottoms, because I like lace and wanted to make it cute instead of just plain.
Here they are. Just in time for the cold winter temperatures that we had this morning. The length and width were perfect to go with my short boots.

Love the bear pillow, but I love the smart use of the sleeves to make into legwarmers more! Who would think you could get a pillow AND legwarmers out of 1 sweater. You are one creative person!

Thanks Linda. I couldn't wait to wear them today. They were perfect for the commute to work in single digit temperatures.
