Hi everyone, I just love shopping and finding pieces that I can use to make anything DIY at the Dollar Tree. Today I made 2 faux candle holders that will go with an older decoration that needs some sprucing up. For now, I will put them in front of it, but I'm working on figuring out a way to dress that piece up too. I was inspired by Chas' project - Option 1 but I didn't have any tuna cans and when I got to the store, another inspiration hit. This is Chas' project:

For this project I used:
2 glass vases with angled rim. The back is higher than the front. That's what started the inspiration.
2 bags of small black iridescent marbles
1 roll of diamond mesh ribbon
2 tall faux candles
All from the Dollar Tree
On hand I had:
Leftover poinsettias from another project
wire cutters
glue gun & glue
Supplies
I started by washing the glass vases because they were pretty dusty. When they were dry I used the glue gun to attach the diamond mesh ribbon. I started the ribbon in the front and added a sparkling poinsettia to cover the seam where the ribbon met. I tried 2 methods of adding the ribbon to the glass. The first time I put the glue on the ribbon. The second one I put the glue on the glass, in short stretches. The second method worked much better.

Next I emptied some of the marbles into the glass, put the batteries in the candle, held the candle straight up and filled in more marbles. For this project it took almost the whole bag for each candle. I think there were 6 left over that wouldn't fit.
Here's how it turned out
I did a second one because I wanted a pair. (BTW, I can see that one of the candles below is not straight. Don't worry, I'll fix it before I use them. ) :)
The pair of candles with holders
One of the reasons I like the marbles is because they make the candles easy to take out of the vase and to put back in. The batteries for these candles are on the bottom and you have to twist the candle to make them light up. I just pull the candle out, turn it on or off, then put it right back in. You might want to use a candle with a remote control, but my challenge was to use Dollar Tree items and they didn't have any with a remote. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!
