I have an assortment of styrofoam balls in a bucket that sits next to “Elmer” the snowman I recently posted. The bucket has a chalkboard label which I wrote “snowballs 5 cents each”. I noticed the various sizes of styrofoam balls and picked 3 to make a mini snowman. I knew right then that I’d go ahead and enter the Winter Wonderland challenge.
The first thing I did was slice off a piece from the bottom ball so it sits flat and another slice off the top one. I plan on placing his head so he looks up. Then I proceeded to Modpodge each styrofoam ball and then roll each into Epsom salt to coat.
Roll in Epsom salt
Once dry I assembled it by inserting toothpicks between each ball and using E-6000 to glue them together. The toothpicks will add a little strength.
Stack and glue
I painted a short toothpick orange for the nose, glued 2 black seed beads for its eyes, used 3 white buttons for its coat and a rhinestone buckle for a halo. Also used some white sticks that were part of a floral arrangement for its arms.
Working on face
In the next step you will need a small set of micro battery lights. I actually have a base that the lights come out from. I took a small dowel and painted it gold. You then can place it in a piece of foam which then will be placed behind the snowman which you then need to place both the foam and the snowman on a base or plate. Once your dowel is dried, wrap the lights around it to the top and bending the wire, make a 5 point star.
Raise its stick arms!
I think it turned out so cute. I did spray some snow on the base since it was black.
Star of Wonder
I ended up moving it to a better location.
Looks cute even when not lit!
