I live on the upper Eastern Shore of MD and I have four Knock out roses ( one is HUGE and is only one year older than the other three which don't get asmuch sun as the big one. The beautyberry bush is about four years old. How far down do you cut, also? Thanks
Three rose bushes in foreground ( third barely visible in front left corner) and beautyberry bush is to the right of the wood cart.
large rosebush is dirctly in middle of photo ( between background of evergreens and a large azalea in the foreground under first shutters) Thank you!!

Beauty berry i would prune now. Roses if too large & in your way can be partially cut back now and mulch with some dead leaves for winter protection. In late winter/early spring is when ur main trim before new growth is to bed done. Cut any winter damage off and trim to a bit smaller than the size u want them with the last bud facing outwards.

A rule of thumb of when to cut other shrubs: Spring blooming shrubs prune before july 1st. That's when they will start to develop next year's buds.

I have 4 knot out roses and I used prune them every fall and spring, but now the are more like tree's so it's every 3 months. But remember I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

    prune out any ingrowing branches

    remove weak and woody growth

remove weaker branch where there are cross or rubbing branches

your bush should be such that a bird can fly through it!
