Really cleaning hand towels.

No matter how many times they are washed, my hand towels still look dingy. It appears that the area where everyone seems to actually dry their hands never looks clean. I've tried all fabric bleach to no avail.

Over time hand towels show wear where they are frequently used to wipe and so the threads are getting thin. If this is the case, you may have to purchase new ones.

How about lemon juice and let them soak for a while. I have to say, we use paper towels, by now I wish I owned stock in company because we use so many. I have them in 3 bathrooms plus kitchen and laundry room. Yes I know that many people are outraged about this as they read but I don't want to use a towel someone else has used,it creeps me out.

Hand towels are cheap, you can get new ones at Walmart for a few dollars and save the nice ones for when you have company, that is what I do. No matter what you do, they will show wear and tear when frequently used, no matter how often you wash them. My guest towels, which were not cheap years ago, still look brand new and have gone through many sets of everyday towels. I turn them into rags when they are replaced.

My daughter soaks hers in borax and Tide for over night. Works on greasy pillow cases, too.

When I have this kind of situation with an article of fabric, I fill a small container with a strong solution of bleach/water. I do not let soak very long, take out, rinse, throw in regular wash. I am still using towels I bought over 30 years ago. But we have soft water.
