Faye from saw the hidden beauty in this discarded piece of furniture and brought it back to life with Fresh Mustard, Bee’s Knees, Vanilla Frosting, Natural Wax, and Belt Buckle Metallic Cream!
My Farmer and I were out checking cows on pasture one gorgeous Friday evening this past Summer — our farmlife version of “date-night”. Nothing beats takin’ a back road ~ gettin’ lost and gettin’ right with our souls ~ unwinding and unravelling! It’s our farmlifebestlife.

While checkin’ cows, unwinding and unravelling, hubs Bry said to me — “Hey… wanna go check out that abandoned building I was telling you about?” Me — “Ummmmm YAAAAAAAA!”

So we make our way to this old building, and I’m drooling before we’ve even entered it! One never knows what one might find in an old abandoned farmyard building… amidst a lot of junk! And there he was — an old grimy, dirty, ugly gun cabinet… and my eyes lit up like saucers!

And I said to Bry — “OMG I have to HAVE this! We have to load it up!” And Bry said “What in the world do you want with this old thing?!” All I said was “TRUST me sweetheart — now back up the truck!”

Now here’s the thing — I get really excited when I bring a piece home — and I get even more excited when I start working on it. So excited that I forget to take before pics! Gah… I need to stop that… cuz man I wish I could show you what this bad boy looked like when we brought him home! Once I got into the early stages of my transformation, I realized that I ONCE AGAIN forgot to take a before pic… but I snagged this one to give you some sort of a sense. This pic was taken after I took down the old back panel that was rotten, removed the racks that once held hunting rifles, and removed most of the hardware:
After taking that pic, I got back to work:
  • Removed remaining hardware (including locks that were on one of the doors and the bottom drawer)
  • Filled former lock areas with wood filler
  • Sanded wood filler once dry, and gave remainder of piece a light sand
  • Had my Farmer cut 2 new shelves, and trim new beadboard panel to required size
  • Cleaned piece thoroughly
  • Mixed my own custom colour of Country Chic Paint’s   in the colour ‘Belt Buckle’
  • Installed 2 new shelves, installed new beadboard backing, reapplied hinges, and installed new hardware where the locks once were

And here you have it — a once very ugly ugly old gun cabinet, now the most charming multi-purpose cabinet, and it’s for YOU! YOU decide how you’d like to use it in your home.
I’ve pictured it as an Ensuite Cabinet… however the possibilities are endless:
  • Linen Cabinet
  • Laundry Room Cupboard
  • Kitchen Pantry
  • Bathroom Vanity
  • Essential Oil Cabinet
  • Etc.
Makes you wanna take a back road doesn’t it?! Tear down some two-lane country!

Who knows?! Get lost and get right with your soul!

Makes ME wanna tell my sweetheart — I TOLD YOU SO!

I hope you visit again! My farmlifebestlife awaits more simple living, generous loving and constant learning — graced with an abundance of country chic character and sweet imperfections, both for me and for YOU! icon

Wow nicely done!! I love the story as to how you found this. I can’t believe that was a gun cabinet but my son has one similar so I know that’s what it was. I love the color you chose for this. Not at all my style but it definitely fits the personality of the cabinet. I love too many styles! Lol
