Huge acorn. What kind of oak tree makes such huge acorns?

While traveling, stopped at a rest area, found this huge acorn. Looked around, saw some good size oak trees but none that looked large enough to produce an acorn this size. Any idea what kind of oak tree it came from & might it come up if planted?

I think it is a Burr Oak. The ones "planted " by squirrels come up sometimes.Probably takes awhile, but I have found little splings in my flower beds.

Can not tell how big the acorn is because there is nothing to compare it with. Even if it was just photographed with your hand it would help.

This acorn is about 1 inch in diameter. Thanks Carol, I'm going to plant it. Will also read up on Burr oaks.

Thank you ALL for your help!!! I had never heard of the Burr Oak, but I do plan on planting this acorn & see if it might sprout & grow. In the meantime, I'm reading up on the Burr Oak to learn about it.

I've seen all different types of acorns in our region and have never given any thought to which tree produces what type or another acorn. I find this discussion interesting.

I found a link that may give everyone some interesting information. Here it is: https://www.wikihow.com/Identify-Oaks-by-the-Acorns.

I'm not sure where you live.

Wwive in northern Wisconsin and I found out that most seeds you should for a week or so and then plant , it give seeds new life and makes them feel like they've went thru

A winter cycle and I've had old seeds grow and give me beautiful flowers

Also thanks for the added info
