Recycled Wedding Decor Made Into Christmas Stockings and Ornaments

Two years ago, I married the love of my life in our backyard and it was perfectly lovely. I wanted to reuse any of the wedding decor that I possibly could. Considering this was a second marriage for us both and we were a blended family with kids, new Christmas stockings seemed in order.

This was the burlap table runner with gold flecks, which was the first layer over ivory satin.

The satin is now used as a tree skirt...there was a lot of it so I just layer it on...

And the lanterns from the table are hung on the tree.

To make the stockings, I used one of our old stockings as a pattern leaving about 1/2 inch extra for the red yarn stitching that would hold the stockings together.

I used red yarn and a large needle to do the outer stitching. It was pretty time consuming, which is why we got the kids involved...everybody did one.

To make the hooks for the stocking, I braided the yarn, using about 12 pieces of yarn, for thickness. Then I secured the hooks with regular thread to the inside of each stocking, in the corner so they would hang correctly.

Then I made pom poms for a little extra flair. To make pom poms, wrap yarn around your hand about 15 times, cut the strand, then tie in the middle of the yarn, cut both ends(loops).

Each stocking got a faux furry top, which I used fabric glue to secure to the burlap and then did the red yarn stitching at the edge where the fabric came together. Because the burlap fabric has gaps/openings, I added tinfoil to the inside of the stocking so the two sides of the stocking wouldn't glue together. The last step was the initial on the front. The furry fabric was hard to work with but we powered through. If I had to do it over again, embroidery thread would be easier for the letters.
