I love vintage Florentine coasters and thought they would make wonderful Christmas ornaments- and you know what? They do! Get the full tutorial HERE on my blog with all the instructions.
I found this baggie of gold coasters at a favorite thrift shop and instantly, they reminded me of vintage Florentine style coasters. I decided I could replicate that look and repurpose them into Christmas ornaments.
For the Florentine look, I needed to add bright jewel-tone colors, so I painted the flat sides using basic acrylic craft paints and used starburst style stencils on others- ensuring that some of the gold was still visible.
Then I added some gorgeous embellishments- including brass filigree jewelry findings (including some broken earrings) and flat-backed rhinestones. I attached them to the coaster ornaments with super glue.
Then, I added hangers ( find out how I did it in my original tutorial! ) and they were ready to hang on my Christmas tree.
Aren't they festive and fun hanging on the tree? And bonus- since they aren't glass, they won't break if they fall (or are knocked) off the tree. AND, because they're flat, they will be really easy to store for the rest of the year. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
