Do you ever get an idea in your head that you just can't shake, and you are determined to make it work? That was me with the idea for this wreath. It started when I was getting the winter gear out, you know the hats and mitts, then I spotted an old grey scarf and suddenly I wanted to use it for a wreath. One trip to Wal-Mart and my decorations fell into place and it is absolutely perfect for the winter season. Everything on it reminds me of our Canadian Winters that usually start mid to late October and last til April. Instead of complaining I embrace it and all it has to offer. Two of my favorite activities are showcased on the wreath, snowshoeing and skating, on an outdoor rink of course!
First step was to gather my supplies, as I mentioned in my introduction my inspiration came from a scarf. A trip to Walmart and I found these adorable decorations, red toque, mittens, sweater, snowshoes and skates. I had the white bough and greenery left from another project as well as the snowflake. Foam wreath I purchased at Michaels and it is 2 inches wide by 16 inches.
I took the scarf and cut it in half as it was quite wide and difficult to work with.
Take your foam wreath and scarf, before you start to wrap it around the wreath leave about 6 inches hanging down. Start wrapping around the wreath, making sure it is snug. You will have enough to do one side.
Take the other half of the scarf and continue wrapping where you left off at the top, coming down to meet the hanging piece. You should have about 8 inches left over.
Next take your glue gun, and secure along the edges where the scarf join and at the bottom where the pieces hang down glue them underneath the wreath.
Take your boughs and attach them to the wreath. I used wire to secure them.
Once in place take your decorations and place them where you want them.
Using your glue gun secure to your wreath. I cut fringes on the bottom of my scarf as I like that look, it is optional.
Here it is completed. I absolutely love how it turned out. This is a Christmas gift for my sister. (maybe....lol) Happy Winter!!!
