Kitchen cabinet door won't latch/stay closed

When closing the door, the male part of the latch on the door doesn't seem to connect the female part on the inside of the cabinet to stay closed.

I don't know how to install new latches, how to measure, etc

Go to your hardware store, they usually have someone who knows. I used a bit of prestik in a bind.....awful in the kitchen

  • Can you post a photo of the existing hardware? Sometimes all it may need is an adjustment.

Sometimes the little plastic male part just gets out of line. Even my clothes dryer needs adjusting sometimes. Measure the distance from EITHER the top or bottom edge of the cabinet to the store, at each corner. A parallel even measure is what you want. You could also use a Level--the bar-shaped tool with a series of plastic cylinders with yellow liquid inside. When the liquid in the center of all cylinders is equal, the surface is level. Just place the Level against the upper or lower edge of the door and observe the cylinders. Notice which end off center. The difference won't be much-just an 8th inch or so. But that will tell you how far off balance the door is.

That's just one issue. Read the related articles for more information. 😇
